We are the secondary school of the Pädagogische Hochschule Tirol. The special thing about our school: Not only children and young people learn in our house. Our school community also includes students, parents and guardians, students of teacher training, teachers, but also school researchers. The most important thing is the individual’s and the community’s learning success.

Practical school
According to Higher Education Act 2005, §23 In addition to the tasks specified in the School Organization Act, the Praxis School has the task of,

  • to contribute to the introduction of students into educational and teaching practice in the sense of vocational-oriented school-based practical training;
  • to try new ways of teaching. In other words:
The Praxis School is a model and research school. Since the 2022/23 school year, the Praxis Middle School, for example, has participated in the Schulversuch („MINT | Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Technology“) project.
  • to supplement and strengthen educational and teaching practical training with regard to the reality of schools.

The Praxis School of the Pädagogische Hochschule Tirol is part of the Pädagogische Hochschule and, as a federal school, is directly subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Education (BMBWF). The Praxis School does not belong to a school district; tuition is not charged.

School autonomy

The Praxis Medium School sees itself as A healthy, environmentally conscious and sustainable school, which promotes and encourages talents and interests and offers a broad and well-founded general education, is oriented towards the principles of sustainable education and environmental education, and adheres to the following fundamental principles:

  • Development of self- and social competence among students through the formation of self-evaluation and critical thinking, as well as the development of an understanding of the needs and feelings of others.
  • Promoting an appropriate and respectful attitude towards fellow human beings
  • Awareness-raising for the environment and resources in line with the SDGs and with the aspect of „education for sustainable development (BNE)“
  • Offering a wide range of teaching and learning methods

Focus weeks From the routine of teaching, they focus on key topics such as digitalization, methodological competence, personality development, and education for sustainable development and environmental awareness. Movement in the classroom and during breaks are being expanded as pillars of our health mindset. The school was awarded the „Healthy School Tyrol“ quality seal in the 2025/26 school year (Quality assurance schools | Healthy School Tyrol) excellent.

In Open learning settings Students have the opportunity to acquire knowledge independently. We achieve this in a prepared environment by providing didactic-prepared work materials that take into account individual learning pace and ability.

In connected learning, we offer students the opportunity to experience educational content from different perspectives and to establish cross-curricular connections. At the end of an activity phase, the results and learning progress are reviewed (project presentation, feedback forms, status surveys, diary, etc.).

In all classes, the class leadership team organizes a weekly session as a mandatory activity (KoKoKo), in which social issues are addressed. The students are expected to acquire social and self-management skills in the context of other subjects. The very name „KoKoKo“ already reveals the goal: KoCommunication – Kooperation – KoNFL solution

In addition to KoKoKo, the binding exercise „LeLeLe – Learning – Reading – Living“ will be conducted during the 25/26 school year. The goal is to support the transition from elementary school well and to lead the children towards self-efficacy, responsibility, and effectiveness. Reading is highlighted as a key gateway to education.

Our school also has the special opportunity, thanks to the involvement of students, multiprofessional work To offer more opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular activities. This includes teaching by at least two teachers: one of them must be a student and/or a teacher with the aim of providing more individual support for students. To promote self-reliance, teamwork, and social skills, projects are carried out at the Praxismittelschule, which are also supervised by teachers and students. Non-school experts are also involved in the work.

Inclusion of parents and guardians
We expect a high level of support from parents and guardians in the educational activities assigned to us. The School Forum, in which representatives of the parents are present in all classes, works in collaboration with the teachers’ collective, together they improve the school day and keep the school partnership alive.

School development
School development is particularly important at our school; this is also due to our affiliation with the Pädagogische Hochschule Tirol. In other words: students from the Praxis-Intermediate School are students from the Pädagogische Hochschule Tirol. In conferences and specialist groups or clusters, as well as in cooperation with the students or their parents and guardians, our school is further developed in terms of content, methodology, and pedagogy.
